Rebecca Sugar (Wiki / Tumblr) was well known for the songs she wrote while working on Adventure Time. It wasn't very surprising she made music an integral part of her own series, Steven Universe. On top of creating more songs in the style of her Adventure Time work, she had the voice actors sing during their auditions, built a team that could write their own songs (yay to Jeff Liu, Hellen Jo, Ben Levin, Paul Villeco, and others), hired several voice actors with a professional musical background, and chose Aivi and Surasshu (previously known best for their distinct chiptune/piano collaborations) as composers. I already made a music site for her work on Adventure Time, there was no way I wasn't going to do the same for the much more musical Steven Universe.
For each vocal song, I've included lyrics, audio, and relevant links. I've also included chords (with diagrams for a GCEA tuned Ukulele) where possible. This site was originally a clone of the Adventure Time Ukulele site I created, but a chord site doesn't fit as well because many Steven Universe songs weren't written for the ukulele. Even for the ukulele based songs, the official chords aren't always posted, so some chord listings are missing or pure guesses (or chordify).
If you want to learn to play the ukulele, Steven Universe songs are a great, fun place to start. Even a non-serious, complete beginner can strum out the songs. Just get a ukulele (cheap ones are less than $30), tune it to GCEA (I use the iOS Tunefor Ukulele app), and then follow the pictures on this site. You can also watch a few beginner's lessons on youtube, but you should be able to jump into the Steven Universe songs right away. A "Down Down Up Up Down Up" strum (or even just a "Down" strum) is good enough for most of these songs. If you have trouble with any chords, just find an easier chord that sounds close enough (for example, play an F instead of a Fmaj7.) If the song is hard to sing to, just transpose it up or down (for example, I usually take two steps up on Be Wherever You Are.) Have fun with it- This site goes into much more detail and details a great strum to use.
Though this site focuses entirely on the vocal songs, I really want to highlight Steven Universe's composers: Aivi and Surasshu. I followed them individually before they started collarborating, through their Mabe Village collaboration and Black Box, and then to their work in Steven Universe. Their participation alone got me through Steven Universe's (IMHO) slow start. Definitely check out all their work.
Library-wise, this site uses JQuery, Bootstrap 2, and lunr.js. I've really only tested this page in Chrome. Feel free to play with code, all the song info is in the lyric-data.js file. Sorry the code is so bad, but I literally threw this together over a weekend almost ten years ago and I didn't want to spend too much time on it. Feel free to try to fix it.
Now for some general linkage:
